A shelf for my drives! Take a peek behind my computer, and you’ll find a stack of external hard drives and a mess of cables. I keep a piece of fabric in front of this area to help keep dust out, but it’s far from perfect and takes up a lot of horizontal desk space.
My goal with this project is to free up this space while creating a new safe home for my drives, where they could get fresh air without clogging up their fans with sawdust or anything else.
Create a fun light-up flower using 3D printing and Tinkercad! Optionally add some needle felting to diffuse the light from the LED at the center of the flower. The special Glow circuit assembly in Tinkercad makes it easy to put an LED and battery circuit into your 3D prints.
If you’d like to make the exact flower shown, you can download the attached STL files and get printing. You can modify the base model by clicking the “edit in 3D” button on the embedded Tinkercad model above (free Tinkercad account/login required). Or model your own unique flower in a new Tinkercad workplane using the tips in this tutorial.

(more…)Here’s how I created custom vinyl stickers for my motorcycle helmet. I was inspired by hand painted helmet designs and chose brush script lettering to communicate my two most common thoughts about drivers while riding my motorcycle in NYC. For single-color designs like mine, you don’t need a big vinyl printer, just a hobby vinyl cutter will work fabulously. I was visiting the Pier 9 Autodesk workshop and used the Roland VersaCAMM printer/cutter because it was available. Alternatively, you could bring your sticker design files to a local sign printing shop for printing/cutting.

(more…)I painted this tank a while back and just hadn’t gotten around to editing it because the tank still awaits some custom art, a topcoat, and final mounting on my boyfriend’s hardtail xs650. But hey, when that happens maybe I’ll do a part two! No need to keep this DIY hostage until then, so here it is. This Instructable chronicles the tank’s journey from bare metal through two coats of automotive primer and two coats of Hot Rod Flatz matte automotive paint. It was my first time using the Preval sprayers and I thought they worked well for our circumstances (having no compressor-powered spray gun or prior experience with automotive paint).

This project is about creating a new seat for my motorcycle, a 1975 Honda CB200T.
I picked up a trashed old seat on eBay because my current seat is in good condition, and there’s no sense in tearing apart a perfectly good seat. Plus then I wouldn’t be making my bike inoperable while working on this project.
The main reason I wanted to change my seat is to lower standover height since I’m extra short. I also welcomed the opportunity to customize any aspect of my bike, since I am a motorcycle beginner.

I’ll show you the easiest way I know for removing candle wax so you can reuse the jar. Besides your candle, you’ll need a chopstick and some hot water. I’ve seen folks suggest a method using a freezer and a knife, and I’m here to tell you there’s a safer, easier way!

Here’s how a few folks from the Brooklyn hackerspace NYC Resistor created a mini golf hole inspired by a human cell for the annual Figment mini golf course on Governors Island (opens June 3 2016)! The theme of the multi-hole course this year is “mini is the new big,” and after proposing our science-themed idea to the open call for submissions, we were selected as as one of the teams to construct a hole for the course. This Instructable follows the process of its construction and is a collaboration between Colleen AF Venable, Guy Dickinson, Chris “Widget” DiMauro, Ryan Micaleff, Ranjit Bhatnagar, and Becky Stern.
